Well we survived the snow storm, snowed for 24 straight hours. Hubby was out 1st thing this am, blowing the drive so the shop could be opened again today. As promised i finished the Bargello yesterday. Took 4 hrs instead of the predicted 2 as i mistakenly switched one of the strip pieces while putting them together, so had some ripping to do while i was sewing my rows together. It's all pinned now and ready to quilt, but i am going to start quilting the 1st bargello now. That one will be going in the shop for sale.
It's a beautiful white sunny day here in Paradise....good day now for snowmobiling, but maybe tomorrow.
Happy Quilting

Good Morning All,
Well big snow storm today, so no point in opening the shop. They are warning pple to stay off the roads, everything is cancelled. So will be more work today on the Bargello i am making for the workshop. Got the strips all arranged yesterday and they are ready to start sewing together. This is a quick one, that can be finished in a day, when u know exactly what u are doing. Not really crazy about the tube method for bargello tho, i found that it kind of went wonky when it was sewed together, and i had to take a couple of rows apart and redo them, it was like to many strip pieces sewn together, and then to big to keep it straight when cutting it. So don't think i will do another one with the strip method. I will post a pic when it is done, should finish it in a hr or so now.
Fun sewing

How is everyone today? Late getting moving today, went to help a friend celebrate her 30th B-Day last nite. She ended the evening crying bec. she thinks she is getting old. If only i could be 30 again.
Well yesterday i got a 3rd person who wants to take my bargello workshop, so i started making the bargello quilt that i am going to teach. It is a lap quilt, and for beginners. I am timing myself on how long it takes to make it...and thought it would be a good idea to make it, seeing how i am going to teach it. This is only my second time making one, the first was an expert level one, so i am quite confident. I find them really relaxing to make tho, not quite sure why. Some pple look at them and get so overwhelmed, but really it is like making any quilt, u have to look at it in blocks and sections, almost disect it, not look at the picture as a whole. Well it's 2:30 PM, and all i have done is start supper and eat a sandwich, check my emails, so guess i better get started. The strip pieces are all together, so now comes the cutting appart again.
Happy piecing.

Day # 2

Quilt class went well last nite. Ladies finished 2 blocks, friendship star and dutchmans puzzle, and started on an aplique that they will be finishing at home. I give them the choice to hand blanket stitch or machine. Had 1 lady last nite decide to handstitch hers, that is a first so far.
I teach them to do their appliques with double sided fusable web, ads some stability, no need for pins that can stick u and get in the way.

Had a few nice comments on the web site yesterday....that is nice since it is so new.

Planning to start on a wall hanging today, with boats, lighthouses and nova scotia tartan in it. Have to get some items started for the upcoming tourist season. Those types of quilted items r always popular.

Well, everyone have a great day, and keep stitching.

Steepleview Quilts # 1

26 Jan 10

My name is Tina Wood. I live in Paradise, NS, Canada. I own a quilt shop, which i just opened last Aug. I have never blogged before, but i did like the movie Julie/Julia. I have been quilting for about 15 yrs, i love it. I couldn't even begin to count how many quilts of various sizes i have made, some won prizes, some have been sold all over the world, lots have been given away as gifts. Some of my favorite things about quilting are first buying and choosing fabrics. If u don't love fabric then there is no way u can quilt. When i pick a new project it is like starting a new adventure just picking out the fabrics for it. I just finished my first Bargello quilt and that was especially fun to pick the fabrics for. Piecing is also a real favorite of mine, because it gives u such a feeling of being creative. I started teaching beginners classes last fall, it is so much fun to see the students get all excited when they finish their first block and it is all ironed.

please have a look at my quilt shop and some of the pieces i have for sale.
